Set in the beautiful, clean waters of Pulau Indah, our Junior Sailing Programme offers young people the chance to connect with nature, learn valuable skills, and develop a lifelong passion for sailing. Surrounded by unspoiled natural beauty, the programme combines adventure, education, and fun in a safe and supportive environment.
We offer two tailored programmes based on age:
Ages 8 to 14:
Young sailors are introduced to sailing in small groups to ensure close guidance, safety, and personal attention. Parental involvement is welcome, but we focus on encouraging teamwork and independence among participants.
Ages 15 to 17:
Older teens can join our more advanced training programme using Laser 2 boats—double-handed dinghies ideal for building speed, teamwork, and technical skills. This course is perfect for teens seeking a more dynamic and challenging sailing experience.
Optimist Dinghies – Perfect for beginners aged 8 to 14.
Byte-class Single-Handers – For more advanced younger sailors building solo confidence.
Laser 2 Dinghies – Used for the 15–17 age group, ideal for developing competitive skills and advanced techniques in a two-person crew setting.
Our programme is designed to go beyond sailing skills, supporting well-rounded development by helping participants:
Enhance physical agility and mental focus
Improve coordination and motor skills
Build self-confidence, independence, and resilience
Experience freedom, adventure, and responsibility on the water
Learn water safety and environmental awareness (e.g., marine health, plastic pollution, conservation)
Develop teamwork, communication, and leadership skills
There are two entry options for new sailors:
Group Classes (Preferred) – Encourages collaboration and social learning
Private Lessons – For those who need extra confidence or prefer a one-on-one start
The programme follows a 3-stage learning path:
Students keep progress logs certified by instructors, serving as proof of competency
Participants are grouped by skill level: Novice, Intermediate, and Racing
Groups train separately but during the same sessions, and eventually race together
Certificates issued by the Club or the Commonwealth of Dominica Maritime Registry, which is internationally recognised
Extra training hours are available for those who need more time to master skills
Children and teens who show dedication and skill are encouraged to join the Beruang Club under the Academy. Our goal is to build a competitive fleet that can represent us in local and international events. Commitment to long-term training is essential for those pursuing competitive sailing.
Sailing sessions are scheduled during optimal tide conditions for safety and effectiveness
Every Sunday, we host Squib Racing for parents – a fun and engaging way for the whole family to be part of the sailing community
Whether your child is just discovering the joy of sailing or is ready to take on the thrill of racing, the Beruang Junior Sailing Programme has something for everyone. With expert instructors, internationally recognised certification, and a nurturing environment, your child will gain confidence, skill, and a deep appreciation for the sea.
Come sail with us – and let the journey begin!
