10 TEAMS WERE ENTERED ONE EACH FROM RSYC, ADMIRALS COVE/ DASH (veterans), SSL, WIPERS, CATCY RIVER RATS (PREVIOUS CHAMPS) 3 FROM UMT TERENGANU AND OUR PSC SQUIBS
Most if not all were younger fitter and better qualified to handle the tippy PLATU 25 ft keelboats.
The only prize our team would have won was combined age (265) and the windy conditions 20/25 knots were against us too.
PSC SQUIB Team intended representatives were Jeremy Camps, Mike Wilder, PSC instructor Hasslan, Thomas plus Emy and Martin Crookes on different days.
In the practise on the Thursday, it was evident Jeremy was not mobile enough from sitting on the floor to handle the helm, Mike likewise so Lan who had owned PLATU no 5 at Admirals Cove was promoted to helm, with Mike on main sheet calling the tactics, Thomas on jib and Martin on spi (first race day no spinnakers as 2 already torn). Emy was dispatched to borrow 4 from the navy at Lumut.
It was windy which also benefitted the younger and fitter crews, the Team were further handicapped by the absence of the Commodores match racing skills (from participating in the Monsoon Cup) and he had been practising too.
Effectively in the 6 races we participated in, in 3 we were black flagged in at least one case wrongly (cannot take penalties before the start) and in 2 suffered breakages.
The results were quite even after day 2, one team with 6 wins and 4 teams with 5 wins, then there were 2 teams with 2 points and PSC SQUIBS with zero points, our battered team retired and did not participate on day 3 because we could not qualify anyway.
The event was won by the SSL team.
We felt it was important for PSC to take part as we had promised RSYC our support and our team did their best in far from easy circumstances, it was interesting to see the organisation which somehow worked using a large fishing sampan as a base for changing crews.
We did come away realising how much more fun Squib sailing is compared with these unstable yachts, definitely not for beginners.
An interesting experience! thanks to JCC Consultants for sponsoring the entry.

The Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta (RMSIR) is Malaysia’s oldest and most prestigious sailing event, held annually in November. Featuring offshore and harbor races along the west coast, it attracts a diverse fleet of yachts from around the world. Beyond thrilling competition, RMSIR offers vibrant social events and stunning coastal stops, making it a highlight of the regional sailing calendar.
The Peninsular Sailing Club Selangor (PSCS) proudly hosted the thrilling 4th Malaysian National Squib Championship, concluding on Sunday, 15th June 2025. The regatta featured 9 entrants (8 competing) from PSCS’s fleet of 18 Squibs, who raced over 7 exciting contests in challenging conditions.
The championship was marked by fierce competition, particularly between the RSYC team of Tom and Shafiq on Quicksilver and PSC Commodore Jeremy Camps with crew David Fitzpatrick on Cabaret 7. Going into the final race, Cabaret 7 needed a win to secure the title. In a dramatic start, Quicksilver used match racing tactics to push Cabaret 7 over the line, but Cabaret 7 made a brilliant comeback, finding a mid-river flyer and rounding the windward mark with a commanding 50-meter lead. They held on through the longest course—two sausages and two triangles—to clinch victory.
The final results were:
🥇 Cabaret 7 – Jeremy Camps / David Fitzpatrick
🥈 Quicksilver – Tom / Shafiq
🥉 Lady VG – RSYC Commodore Rama Menon / Justin (23 pts)
4️⃣ Second Wind – Charles / Martin (25 pts)
5️⃣ Alice – Rainer / Mike (26 pts)
6️⃣ Emily – Evan / Wolfram (32 pts)
7️⃣ Buck Up – Malaysian Seascouts Sean / Wan (32 pts)
8️⃣ Jerry – Thomas / Richard (35 pts)
The championship concluded with a fantastic celebration at the Club Cafeteria, where members enjoyed delicious food prepared by PSC’s own Chef and member Peter Hindle. Congratulations to all participants for an exciting and memorable regatta!
A new chapter in Malaysia's fight against marine plastic waste officially began today at the Peninsular Sailing Club in Pulau Indah, with the inauguration of the Mobula 8 sea cleaner. The momentous occasion saw the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, deliver a speech highlighting the critical need for this initiative.
The project is a collaborative effort by Malaysia's Marine Research Foundation, Swiss NGO The SeaCleaners, and the Minister's own Ministry. Minister Nik Nazmi emphasized Malaysia's significant marine debris problem due to increasing waste generation. The Mobula 8, an innovative vessel designed to efficiently remove surface plastics, will be stationed in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
While the Mobula 8 will actively clean the waters, the Minister stressed that the initiative also underscores the broader commitment to strengthening waste management, raising public awareness, and fostering a culture of sustainability to prevent pollution at its source. The launch marks a pivotal step towards innovative, on-the-ground action for a healthier Malaysian marine environment.
